Kyiv, 8 September 2011
The International Labour Office (ILO) and the Canadian Government have launched a new project ‘Improving Collective Bargaining and Labour Law Compliance in Ukraine’, which aims to promote effective realization of the right to organize and bargain collectively and to assist Ukraine in its efforts to modernize its labour inspection machinery.
The Project’s official launch took place on 8 September 2011 at the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine with the attendance of the Embassy of Canada to Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the National Tripartite Social and Economic Council, leaders of the national associations of employers and trade unions, ILO officials, international projects and foundations, and the media.
The project focuses on strengthening the institutional capacity of social partners to carry out collective bargaining and improving understanding of labour laws and regulations as well as on improving coordination between different labour inspection services in line with ILO Conventions ratified by Ukraine. The improved labour inspection services will strengthen the implementation and evaluation of national labour policies and, more specifically, will promote collective bargaining as well as monitor and enforce labour legislation and collective agreements.
The project will carry out awareness-raising activities, communicate information, and support the development and implementation of locally adapted tools and pilot interventions, so that Ukrainian social partners and labour inspection services are able to accumulate and implement hands-on experience.
